One must reserve comments on some writers unless one consults their body of work, for one book may not necessarily let us into an author's soul. To paraphrase Harold Bloom, "An entelechy is something complex that emerges when you put a large number of simple objects together." It is in this context we must read Carl Roc's entire nine-book collection so as to better express an opinion about his work as a whole. Carl Roc is a poet who continues to evolve. A reader will find both romanticism and surrealism in his work.
About the AuthorCarl Roc is well equipped to explain in a fine and comprehensive language his view of the universe and his spirituality. He allows the reader to feel his pains, his hope, and his anxiety. It is especially rewarding to read how he honors his father in "Masillon Roc." He then celebrates and honors the civilization of the Mayas in the "Maya Dossier," but he doesn't stop there; he honors his place of residence in "Beautiful Brooklyn" and salutes his birthplace in "Miragoâne." Let us not forget the love for his mother in "Clermina Rhénal" and his sarcasm in "Fame." The complexity, the richness of Carl Roc's vision can be enjoyed by reading one volume of his poetry, but they can only be truly experienced when his works are read as a whole.
