He attended St. Francis Seminary in Wisconsin and become an ordained deacon in 1975. After the death of his first wife and the refusal of the archbishop to allow him to remarry and remain in the ministry, he decided to leave the clergy life, remarry, and gain some peace of mind regarding his relationship with the Lord, which he now believes he has.
