Becoming a Hero: Volume I

by Centrella DeVoe Taylor
This story is about two children and their mother, whose husband was enlisted in the Marines. They faced normal family matters, which resulted in sibling rivalry. Their father felt that Michael, being the oldest, could receive his strong wisdom and responsibility. Michael finally began to grasp on to what his father shared with him. This helped bring their family that was once divided to a place of unity, and it helped them stay strong together when they were faced with trial and error in their lives.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
My name is Centrella DeVoe Taylor. I was born in Chicago, Illinois, but raised in Florida. I was the eighth child out of ten children. I have two brothers who were enlisted in the Army: Walter DeVoe, a Major Sergeant; and Nathaniel DeVoe, who served over seas. They both served in the Vietnam War for a few years. Their pain was a lot of sheer sorrow, and I felt pain not knowing if I would ever see them again. It really inspired me to write this children's book, hoping that it would encourage other children who have family overseas and give insight to the children who are not faced with these obstacles.
