Crepe Myrtle and Dogwood
by Sally T. Cornelious
Usually in the morning I have had strong desires to share with others precious thoughts and glimpses of life through poetry. It appeared to me that since there were none present, I would jot down some of my thoughts.
This book of poems imparts some of the special reflections that stayed in my mind sometimes for days. My work was actually written as a result of special encounters with nature, physically and spiritually.
The pieces are arranged somewhat chronologically, starting in the early eighties.
About the Author
I was born in Washington, D.C., and also lived in the countryside. I have visited a foreign country and witnessed the fabulous and turbulent sixties and seventies. I was in the city when this nation was torn apart by the assassinations of President Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King.
I was publicly educated in this great city, which is my home. It is a grand and beautiful place to be.
Since I am a product of a multi-heritage race, I've been fortunate to experience living on the farm. My siblings and I spent summers on the farm in South Carolina. There I saw how humble and simply people lived. I began at an early age to know and feel the pain and joy of the haves and the have-nots. It has instilled in me a passionate desire to understand and have strong compassion for others. I believe through my poetry this can be accomplished.
My husband of forty-three years, Carl; our pug, McBeth; and I still reside in my hometown of Washington, D.C.
