Health care in the United States has reached a critical stage. Either change begins now, during our generation, or it will become something that appears in our history books. Consider the state of Medicare, Medicaid, and private health insurance—continuation is unlikely, unless change occurs. The number of uninsured or under-insured continues to rise every year. The numbers of individuals over the age of sixty-five is placing an increasing burden on the Medicare system and society as a whole. Employers are finding it difficult to provide employees with adequate health-care benefits. Health insurance plans are increasing premiums while decreasing benefits. Health-care providers are paying high rates of malpractice insurance.
What is the answer? Dr. John A. Ridlon proposes that we reengineer our system, look to other aspects, and begin a reform that provides answers to our health-care problems.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Born and raised in New England, the values and traditions instilled in Dr. John A. Ridlon at a young age have been carried out through his life and career. Dr. Ridlon began his health-care career when he joined the military in the 1970s. A decorated veteran who served from the Vietnam war until his retirement after the Persian Gulf War, Dr. Ridlon has seen and experienced health care throughout the world., serving in many types of health-care facilities in many countries. His knowledge and experience are extensive.
During his first tour in Germany, Dr. Ridlon met and married his wife, Marianne. Together they have four children. After retiring from the military, John and Marianne continue to live in San Antonio, Texas, where he is a professor of health care at a local college.
