This is the story of an army infantry platoon leader in the Pacific during World War II who served in various locations in the United States, Okinawa, the Philippines, and Japan. He fought in front-line combat with the 77th Division and in the occupation of Japan with the First Calvary Division.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, James R. Wilkinson joined the Reserve Officers Training Corps at the University of Pittsburgh in 1940. He was called to active duty in June of 1943. James completed basic training at Ft. Eustis, Virginia; then, he lived in the Cathedral of Learning for three months in ASTP at Pitt. Next, James was sent to infantry basic training and Officers Candidate School at Ft. Benning, Georgia, where he graduated in 1944 as a office in the U.S. Army.
Having survived many close calls on Okinawa, James is thankful to God for his long life.
