by Rebecca Rogers

After graduating from high school, Rebecca Rogers met and married Felipe, a man from Venezuela. In Just to Be Hugged, she relates the story of this marriage, a marriage out of her culture, out of her religion, and out of her country. Her life in Venezuela was filled with loneliness and fear. After much prayer, and finally the help of the American Embassy, she has to literally escape from her husband and his family with her four little girls. This is their fight for freedom.

Rebecca Rogers was born in 1940 and raised in upstate New York. Her mother was married to Rebecca’s stepfather when the author was five years old. She was the middle child of three girls. Her parents were blue-collar, hard working people, but they did not have a lot of time for love and affection. After her high school graduation, she went to work as a clerical worker in a bank, which is where she met Felipe—and that is where Just to Be Hugged begins.
