Kids Can Write! promotes the natural growth and development of written language skills. It teaches middle school students many different forms of writing and shows them samples written by students like themselves from the years 1961 through 1981. The quality of these samples demonstrates the value of the program.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Chuck Dowdle hails from Crookston, Minnesota, which was his home for eighteen years. He left high school after the first semester of his senior year to join the Navy and was discharged on Thanksgiving Day of 1947.
Early the next year, Chuck started college on the G.I. Bill and met his wife, Marty. They were married in June of 1951. By 1952 the Dowdles had their first daughter and Chuck had graduated from St. John’s University at Collegeville, Minnesota.
Five daughters, an M.A., and thirty-six years later, Chuck retired from teaching junior high English in Santa Rosa, California. After his wife of forty-nine years died suddenly of ovarian cancer, he met and married her best high school friend, Carmelle Johnson Matthes.
