The ninth of ten children, Lavada Morgan is reared mostly by a single working mother. She is molested when she is very young and is involved in statutory rape and other sexual encounters throughout middle and high school.
Even though she attends church regularly and knows the men molesting her are wrong, the need to feel wanted and loved is more important than stopping them.
At the age of fourteen, Lue has an affair with a math teacher, who is also her basketball coach. She finds him compassionate, kind, and lovable, even though he is married and has a son. She schemes with her friends to keep her affair with him a secret. Through all she experiences, Lue learns how to satisfy and respect her mother and elders as she copes with her many problems in school.

Lavada Morgan, a native of Arkansas, finished high school at the age of sixteen. Her eagerness for higher education led her to Little Rock, where she attended a Baptist college and transferred to AM&N College in Pine Bluff. There she earned a bachelor of arts elementary education.
After successfully teaching high school for a few years, she moved to Michigan to continue her career and further her education, earning a master of science in early childhood education.
She continues to make Michigan her home, where she enjoys golfing, fishing, and bowling.
