The Magic of Poetry

I am glad to see other people, young and old, like my book of poems because my poems are about people and nature. I see beauty in the universe and try to use my poems to reflect that in almost everything I write down on paper. I also like photography. I hope my book of poems can conjure up pictures in the readers’ minds of nature or days gone by, when the reader had special days in his or her life or childhood, like holidays, for example, when the world seems almost perfect. I hope children and adults are inspired by my poems. With all the negative things we see on tv and read in newspapers, surely a person needs something positive to read to take them away for a while to a better place — a paradise, if you will — on the wings of a poem.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I was born in East St. Louis, Illinois. My parents are Mildred Thomas and the late Sylvester Bradford. I have one brother, Sylvester Bradford; two sisters, Monique Brooks and Nedra Green; and their families. They inspired me to write poems because of family hardships in our childhood. I went to college for four years. I work with children, and they also inspire me to write poetry. The children like my poetry as much as I do. I believe poetry is for all ages and is as important as art and music because people can express themselves through poems.
In my spare time, I like to read poems and watch cartoons on tv because it’s more food for thought for me to write poems. I like to go to the movies and relax so I have as much energy as the students with whom I work. I hope one day some of them will become poets.
