Must Be the Music: Part I

by G. Alexander Jenkins, Esq.

MUST BE THE MUSIC: Part I is a series of funny, serious, and sometimes tragic vignettes, all relayed from an engaging and forthright first-person narrative, which chronicles the author’s coming of age from the dawn of hip hop music to the early nineties.

From an all-white hamlet of Valley Stream, Long Island to the barber shop, church, park, Oak Bluffs, Princeton University, and Columbia Law School, even to becoming the General Manager of Uptown/MCA, one of the most successful independent urban contemporary labels in history, the author’s life has been shaped, defined, and enhanced by urban contemporary music: hip hop or R&B.

MUST BE THE MUSIC: Part I boasts a star-studded cast as the author recounts personal encounters with Halle Berry, Mary J. Blige, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, Star Jones, RUN-DMC, the Awesome Two, Christopher Williams, and many more. This book is a must read not only for fans of urban contemporary music and members of the hip hop community, but also for those seeking a broader understanding of hip hop culture and its profound impact on the world around us.
