This book was written to introduce young children to nine basic types of poems, but Nancy Gannon Humes goes further than providing definitions for each. This book is also designed to help children to develop their creative talent by requiring them to write their own poems, haiku, for example. By both reading and writing, children will more easily remember each poem type.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Nancy Gannon Humes was raised in St. Louis, Missouri, and is the youngest of ten children. Her parents placed a heavy emphasis on her education, giving her fabulous opportunities in life. Humes passes this emphasis on to all children.
Humes started writing poems like this in fourth grade. She felt that the exercise of creating her own poems in conjunction with defining the types allowed her to remember them and reference them far past grade school and well into her adult life. She wants to share this fun tool with other children, so they, too, can benefit from this exercise.
