The Thoughts of a Black Man’s Mind, by Calvin Brown, was written during his time of grief over the murder of his one and only brother.
Calvin Brown is a young African-American dedicated to his Church, which he attends regularly. These poems, however, are about living your life to the fullest and some of the things we take for granted. Many of these poems are a reflection of different topics that show us all how much we all take for granted in our life every day.
Upon reading these poems, we will hopefully realize some of us live fear-based lives in hopes that a life change can be in a positive manner. These poems collectively reflect how facts are on the positive side and how much we lost in the September 11, 2001 attack on New York and all around the world, which forever changed our lives. We all need to take a second look at our world and how we live—at the way we live our lives, both the positive and negative aspects of life. And there are many positive things we will see if we just take the time to acknowledge them.
These poems are basic and can be read by people of all ages. We are, it seems, at times always in a hurry. In our lives, we need to stop caring about and craving material things that can be replaced. People need to realize what God has given to all His people and that He will always be there for us unconditionally with the kind of love only He can give. We have all gone through happiness, sadness, and tragedies in our lives; however, there is no getting around it.
Just take at least a few minutes to enjoy life and all the things we take for granted. We should be living life, not taking anything for granted. We should “stop and smell the roses and appreciate all the beauty for as long as we are alive.”
