by Linda Dennis-Goss
Stand Up, Black Nation: You Owe It to Yourself is a collection of several different pieces, each relating to the black race in America. Writing from her own outlook and experience, Linda Dennis-Goss reminds us of the struggles, past and yet to come, on where we are headed and where we have been. She demands unity and harmony.
Ms. Dennis-Goss suggests that African-Americans, as a people, must not pattern themselves after others, but be receptive to their own heritage. “We did not create ourselves,” she writes, “therefore we are just as important as others, regardless of how they may feel about Blacks in general.”
Ms. Dennis-Goss implores African-Americans to recognize themselves as respectable and intelligent, despite what the media predict. There are people in all races who are considered undesirable. We are all somebody.
