by Phillip Wells

The stories contained in this in this intriguing volume were recited to Phillip Wells by his cousin Lucille. Lucille was born in the early part of the twentieth century in central Tennessee. Her mother and father died when she was quite young. She was moved to northwestern Kentucky in an area then referred to as "the land between the rivers," where a grandmother raised her.

Most of the stories were gleaned from her firsthand experiences as told and retold by her. Lucille passed away at the age of eighty-eight.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Phillip Wells has written tales, short stories, and anecdotes for years as a hobby, occasionally submitting one for publication. He has studied creative writing through a Community College in St. Louis, Missouri.

Educators advise that a short story must have conflict to be readable. In Phillip Wells’s opinion, a short story can simply be entertaining; it does not need to contain a moral or be full of symbols. In some circles, making that statement is akin to blasphemy.
