by Nikki Salupo

After twenty-eight years of teaching eleven-to-eighteen-year-olds to read purposefully and to write clearly, Nikki Salupo retired. Almost immediately, she realized how much her life had changed. She was bereft of once-close friends who were still teaching; she also felt alienated from the world of retirees. She was no longer a teacher, but not yet qualified to pay senior citizen’s admission at the movies.

Since she had taught composition and had once won a creative writing contest in graduate school, she decided to organize her feelings of loss onto paper. Her attempt to organize became this book of verses.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Nikki Salupo was a secondary reading and English teacher in a suburban Cleveland, Ohio, school system for twenty-eight years. After retirement, she and her already retired husband Jack had more time to rediscover that life without work still has its stresses. They also had more time to indulge in Jack’s passion, sailboat racing and cruising.

When they married, Jack was the father of three and grandfather of one. Today, that family includes six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Jack and Nikki still live in suburban Cleveland from which they travel to visit those widely scattered family members which also include Nikki's sister and brother-in-law in Texas and two very lively mothers, Jack's and Nikki's.
